a little humor for your day

I've been reading "Pollyanna" by Eleanor H. Porter to the kids and had to share this excerpt because it still is causing me to chuckle.

In chapter 7, Pollyanna and Nancy (Aunt Polly's hired girl) are having a conversation about names. Nancy has just told Pollyanna that she hates her own name and wishes it were something prettier. Here is Pollyanna's response:

"Well, anyhow," [Pollyanna] chuckled, "you can be glad it isn't 'Hephzibah.''

"Hephzibah!"

"Yes. Mrs. White's name is that. Her husband calls her 'Hep,' and she doesn't like it. She says when he calls out 'Hep -- Hep' she feels just as if the next minute he was going to yell 'Hurrah!' And she doesn't like to be hurrahed at."

[End excerpt]
*****go ahead, say it out loud "Hep Hep Hurrah!" okay, now giggle like crazy****

BTW, Hephzibah has a beautiful meaning: "my delight is in her" so really, this amusing excerpt is rather fitting for the name, don't you think?
