Great Movies

Here's a list of movies we've enjoyed watching (a couple of these are ones the kids can see - I've marked those with an *). My fav genre of late is "based on a true story" (BOATS).

Because my mind seems to go into overdrive, especially at 3 in the morning, I've realized I need to guard over what I watch and read cause some things I just don't want to think on over and over again. So the selections below are ones with little or no sex, gratuitous violence (it may have some, if that's what happened historically) and fairly clean language (a few exceptions, but it was at least critical to the story line). Many of them also provide great opportunities for discussion or further research.

  • The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby*
  • Freedom Writers
  • The Great Debators
  • The Dorothy Day Story
  • Lars and the Real Girl (recommended by Tim & Lauren, not BOATS)
  • Juno (recommened by Tim & Lauren, not BOATS)
  • The Straight Story
  • Pride
  • Hotel Rwanda
  • Babe*
  • Because of Winn-Dixie*
  • Cars* (I've been known to get choked up in this one...silly since it's an animation...must be the mom-thing!)
  • The Long Grey Line
  • An American Rhapsody
  • The Miracle Maker*
  • Cinderella Man
  • It's a Beautiful Life
  • Maldonado Miracle
  • Lilies in the Field
  • How Green Was My Valley
  • Walking the Bible
  • Lord of the Rings
  • Man on Wire
  • Band of Brothers
  • Flash of Genius
That's all I can remember for now...Dave may add some more after he sees the list :). Feel free to comment with your suggestions.
