Since our vacuum is slowly disintegrating before our eyes after just five (!) years or so of purchasing, we're evaluating whether to buy new or replace pretty much everything except the canister. In checking out the Sears replacement parts site, I just discovered that it would cost more than $250 for all the parts we need. And guess what they charge for 1 screw? $3.50!
You've got to me kidding me! Ummm...I'm still considering it, but I think we may be buying new!

Go for the Dyson - never thought I'd be head over heels for a vacuum...but I am. They are amazing and so worth the investment!!! Love it!
