Big Step

Reese had his first big boy sleep over last night - it was at Grandpa and Nan's so the familiarity/comfort factor was high, but a big step nonetheless. It was great to see how excited he was all day in anticipation of "his turn."

However, the reality of the situation hit when he saw Dave and I packing up Brie and Luke in the car...he then realized sleeping over meant his remaining behind. When I went in for one last hug he said, "I want to go with you," and began to cry. Melt my heart! After a brief psych up session, though, he was all smiles once again and ready for this milestone.

It's kind of that way with God. We seek His presence, desire Him to be with us, feel His love and warmth and then feel secure enough to ask Him to let take on that next big step - "O.K. God, I'm ready. Bring it on." Only to find that sometimes that challenge means we don't feel Him with us. It's not as if He's left us completely, but we just can't feel Him there. In these times, He grows us, especially our faith. We must trust and believe we will be with Him once again, wrapped in His love, awaiting our glorious homecoming.
